Seat belt is a must if you have to be safe on the roads. A functioning seat belt will protect a driver and passenger from unexpected risks and injury during a collision or a sudden stop when on the road.
One good advantage of a functional seat belt is that in event of a car crash, it helps to save lives and reduce injuries. A working seat belt also guards one from having contact with other parts of the vehicle such as the steering and the dash board if an accident occurs.
For us at LACVIS, as part of our checklists to determine the road worthiness of a vehicle, we check if the seatbelt is functional just to be sure you are always on the safe side.
So, what do we look out for when inspecting your seat belt?
- The seat webbing of the seatbelt
- The buckle of the seatbelt
- The Anchorage
- Retracting mechanism
These checks are to help us know if the seat belt is functional and not just a prop to avoid the checks by safety enforcement officers on the roads.
What if your seat belts are not in good condition?
After the check, our certification officer will tell you what’s wrong with the seat belt(s). Thereafter, you will be asked to fix the defect(s) and represent the vehicle for another inspection. All this you can do at no extra cost within a thirty days period.
We advise you drive safe and use your seat belt at all times. If in doubt, visit any of our LACVIS centres across Lagos state to check the condition of your seat belt.
